Celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s 152nd birthday

On October 2, in advance of Diwali Day, The Festival of Lights in India, Mr. Conrad Lee joined Lavanya Reddy, Manka Dhingra, Vandana Slatter, Sudip Gorakshakar and many of our Indian Americans to celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s 152nd birthday at Bellevue Downtown Library where Gandhi’s statue is. On this sunny afternoon we remembered his deeds and words – “Where there is Love there is Life”, “We need not wait to see what others do”.

One of the legacies of Gandhiji is to “seek change through non-violence.” He said, “Violence based on hatred would destroy the pursuit of the goals.” On October 17, 2009, Diwali Day – “The Festival of Lights” in India, at the dedication of Gandhi’s statue, Ambassador Shankar said, “Gandhi showed us that the whole world is a family. We must approach all differences with respect, tolerance, openness and sensitivity. This attitude of tolerance, openness and mutual respect is absolutely imperative to building a world of peace and friendship.” This is never more relevant now than ever.
